Wingspan needs 10 volunteers for painting and "refreshing" homes.

The mission of Wingspan Life Resources is to help people who are challenged by age, ability or health to realize their unique gifts, talents and dreams. They fulfill this mission by providing individualized support services that promote personal choice, independence, dignity and fellowship with the community. Wingspan's major focus has been serving adults with developmental disabilities. Currently, Wingspan owns and operates 19 homes located in the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul area. Each home offers a family-like atmosphere, where staff and volunteers help residents take responsibility for daily chores, make independent choices and take part in neighborhood and community activities.

Wingspan is playing catch-up on maintaining its 19 homes and needs help with painting, repairs, and overall interior and exterior "refreshing". Volunteers will prep and paint, and may be called upon for light repairs. Supplies will be furnished by Wingspan, as well as refreshments and lunch.

"Books for Africa from People in America that are just like us" has collected, sorted, shipped, and distributed over 4 million donated books to children in Africa.

Articulture would like our help in their booth at the Longfellow Street Fest. The festival is at the corner of Lake Street and Minnehaha Avenue, near Patrick's Cabaret.

8 volunteers needed to help with setup and then assist participants with simple art projects after the fair starts at noon. No art talent required for volunteers.

Dress is very casual. Snacks and drinks for volunteers. There will food for purchase at the festival.

USA Cup Soccer Tournament

The Schwan's USA Cup has been North America's largest youth soccer tournament since the early 1980's represented by 59 Minnesota communities, 38 states and 16 countries. The National Sports Center is the world's largest sports complex and will play over 2,000 games during this tournament.

30 volunteers needed to help organize and parade in over 500 domestic and international teams during the Opening Ceremonies. We will work closely with coaches and players from all the teams. After the opening ceremonies parade, we will help clean up the stadium field prior to the MN Thunder professional soccer game. We are invited to attend the World's Largest Pizza Party after the opening ceremonies, and will be given tickets to attend the MN Thunder vs San Jose Earthquakes soccer game immediately following. Please let the leader know whether you will be able to attend the soccer game. Volunteers will receive a USA Cup t-shirt.

We need 12 volunteers to cook and serve dinner (buffet style) for about 60 homeless shelter residents. We will also be cleaning up afterward. The project leader will bring the food. The food will be covered by money raised while working at the Renaissance Festival last fall. This is a very easy and rewarding experience.

15 volunteers needed to assist with an Event to honor the "Super Cookie Sellers" of area Girl Scouts. We will be assisting with Activities such as crafts, (no experience necessary!) archery, beach volley-ball, croquet and sand-castle building. There will be approximately 400 scouts at this annual event, so they need our help! This event will be held rain or shine, and the dress is casual, so please dress for the weather.

 The organizers have suggested that we plan to bring rain gear AND mosquito repellant. Volunteers will receive beverages from the Hospitality tent, but it may be wise to bring a water bottle with you if it is especially hot that day. FYI - the leader may want to try to coordinate carpools for this event, depending on where you live, it could be about an hour travel each way!

We need 20 volunteers (10 per shift) to staff 2 water stops along the route of the Aquatennial Half Marathon. Duties include setting up the water stop, handing out water to the runners/cheering them on, and cleaning up afterward. Free parking and Aquatennial t-shirt.

The Minneapolis Aquatennial is a non-profit association and is the official civic celebration of the city of Minneapolis.

The American Diabetes Association is the nation's leading health organization supporting diabetes research, information and advocacy.

The Sunday picnic is the finale to two days of sailing races. There will be a live and silent auction, a picnic supper, and trophies for the winning crews.

Monday, September 2, 2002: "Fun" day at sea. Join in all the fabulous organized shipboard singles activities.

Tuesday, September 3, 2002: Visit Belize City, Belize (7am-5pm) which is known for ecotourism and some of the most beautiful and unspoiled snorkeling waters in the world. Private shore tours available for our singles groups.

Wednesday, September 4, 2002: Spend the day on the islands of "Playa del Carmen/Cozumel" Mexico (8a-4:30p). Don't miss the numerous water sports this island has to offer, or be mesmerized by a visit to the ancient Mayan ruins.

Thursday, September 5, 2002: Explore Progreso / Merida (7:30am -3pm) where you can tour the ruins of Uxmal, considered the most beautiful on the Yucatan. Private shore tours available for our singles group.

Friday, September 6, 2002: Fun" day at sea. Join all the daily activities for our group.

Saturday, September 7, 2002: It's back to reality as "Carnival's Pride" docks at Port Canaveral at 7:00 a.m. for your trip home, hopefully with a lifetime of wonderful memories.

The Minnesota Twins and 101.3 KDWB are once again inviting singles from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area to get together for some fun at the Metrodome.

The night will kick off with appetizers and socializing outside Gate D at the Metrodome, including great door prizes and a cash bar.

After the social, stay and watch the exciting Twins in action against a divisional rival, the Chicago White Sox. Here are the highlights:

Irish Fair of MN

The Irish Fair is an annual event that will be on Harriet Island, Downtown St. Paul. It is a two day celebration of Irish culture.

This fair is now the fastest growing festival in Minnesota, so whether you're full-blooded Irish or simply wish you were, join thousands of people from throughout the Upper Midwest for the biggest Irish celebration of the year! Volunteers are urged to enjoy the festival, admission is free!

Dress: Casual (T-shirts will be provided).

Parking: On your own. There are many available parking lots along Plato Blvd and Water Street as you approach Harriet Island Regional Park as well as some street parking. Parking is also available in downtown ramps - River Centre, Science Museum, Victory Ramp and others - which are just a short walk to the Wabasha Street Bridge which connects to the walking path to Harriet Island Park. There will be no event parking in the lots at Harriet Island Regional Park. They will be reserved for non-Irish Fair activities at the Park (Paddleford boat rides, public dock, etc) and for Irish Fair entertainers and vendors who have permits.

Wingspan needs 12 volunteers for painting and "refreshing" homes. The mission of Wingspan Life Resources is to help people who are challenged by age, ability or health to realize their unique gifts, talents and dreams. Wingspan's major focus has been serving adults with developmental disabilities. Currently, Wingspan owns and operates 19 homes located in the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul area. Each home offers a family-like atmosphere, where staff and volunteers help residents take responsibility for daily chores, make independent choices and take part in neighborhood and community activities.

Wingspan is playing catch-up on maintaining its 19 homes. Our project will involve painting one of their homes. Volunteers may be required to do some prep work as well as paint. Supplies will be furnished by Wingspan, as well as refreshments and lunch. If we re unable to complete the project, we will return to this location on August 24.

TPT Studios needs 24 volunteers to answer phones and record pledges. We won't be live on camera this time, but its still fun. Volunteers will be provided with food and beverages. Parking is provided free for the volunteers. There will be plenty of snacks for volunteers.

We need 12 volunteers to cook and serve dinner (buffet style) for about 60 homeless shelter residents. We will also be cleaning up afterward. The project leader will ask you to bring part of the meal. This is a very easy and rewarding experience.

Colorful, but tasteful clothing works best. White shirts are not recommended. Studio can be very warm when the lights are on, cools off rapidly when TV lights go off. There will be plenty of snacks for volunteers.
