Habitat for Humanity

Minneapolis or St. Paul location

12-15 volunteers needed to assist with construction or remodeling projects on a Habitat house. Volunteers should bring a bag lunch. When signing up, please indicate whether you have tools or experience.

Since Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity began 15 years ago, more than 200 families have purchased their own Habitat homes throughout Minneapolis, St. Paul and the surrounding suburbs. These families have monthly gross incomes that prevent them from obtaining traditional mortgages and lessening their chances of buying a home. Every family who buys a home from Habitat invests 300-500 hours of "sweat equity" work on their own house and/or other Habitat homes. Habitat then sells them a home at an affordable price and without charging any interest. It takes an average of 4000 volunteer hours to complete each house.

Timberwolves

Washburn Child Guidance Center

Target Center
600 1st Avenue North, Downtown Minneapolis

Let the games begin (again)! We are helping out with interactive games before 9 Timberwolves home games again this year. Our participation in this event will benefit Washburn Child Guidance Center. Washburn Child Guidance Center is a mental health agency serving children, adolescents and families. The mission of Washburn Child Guidance Center is to help children at risk lead successful lives. This mission is accomplished through providing diagnostic, therapeutic and education services to children and their families who are experiencing or who are at risk to experience emotional, behavioral or educational problems.

We need 10 volunteers each game to assist with interactive games such as the bungee run and the Inflatable Big Slam. These are games that are set up prior to each Timberwolves game for fans to participate in. Half of all proceeds collected will go to Washburn.

Volunteers should meet in the front of the Administration Office for the Timberwolves between 5:00 - 5:15. This is located on the west side of the Target Center at the entrance to the skyway. If you park in the I-394 Ramp, you walk East through the skyway - right before you enter the Target Center on the Skyway level, you will see a sign that reads "Administration Office Timberwolves/Lynx". Another way of getting there is to enter the Arena Club Entrance and then go up to the Skyway and the Administration Offices will be right there.

We will receive passes that will allow volunteers into the upper-level seating free. Volunteers would need to eat dinner in advance or else after our assignment is complete at 7:00pm. Parking is on your own.

If you can help out, please contact Pati E. at sunfish50@hotmail.com.

A block of rooms have been set aside for the night if you would like to reserve a room. They are $59 and are being held under the name SVTC. If you would like to reserve a room, please call the hotel directly at 952-935-7711 and ask for a room under SVTC.

Habitat for Humanity

Location to be announced
12-15 volunteers needed to assist with construction or remodeling projects on a Habitat house. Volunteers should bring a bag lunch. When signing up, please indicate whether you have tools or experience.

Since Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity began 15 years ago, more than 200 families have purchased their own Habitat homes throughout Minneapolis, St. Paul and the surrounding suburbs. These families have monthly gross incomes that prevent them from obtaining traditional mortgages and lessen their chances of buying a home. Every family who buys a home from Habitat invests 300-500 hours of "sweat equity" work on their own house and/or other Habitat homes. Habitat then sells them a home at an affordable price and without charging any interest. It takes an average of 4000 volunteer hours to complete each house.

Do you want to help raise $ for a wonderful cause? We are getting a group of SVTC members and their friends to join us for a walk at Ridgedale to help raise $ for autism research. Walkers can gather pledges or just make a donation themselves ($5, $10 or whatever!). You will be able to obtain a registration form at www.tcas.org closer to the event.

Autism impacts the normal development of the brain in the areas of social interaction and communication skills. The disorder makes it hard to communicate with others and relate to the outside world. In some cases, aggressive and/or self-injurious behavior may be present.

Autism is a national crisis affecting 400,000 families and costing the nation over 13 billion dollars a year. According to recent studies, as many as 2 in every 1000 children born today will be on the autistic spectrum. Autism is more common than Down syndrome, multiple sclerosis or cystic fibrosis. The number of cases of autism spectrum disorders is increasing worldwide. Minnesota experienced a 30% increase in cases in the last year, California had a 280% increase.

Nancy (SVTC's co-founder) will be leading this event. Her 4-year old nephew has autism. This will open for sign-up approximately 8 weeks before the walk takes place. We hope lots of members can make it out for this walk. We will go out for breakfast after the walk.

Habitat for Humanity

Location to be announced
12 volunteers needed to assist with construction or remodeling projects on a Habitat house in either Minneapolis or St. Paul. Volunteers should bring a bag lunch.

Ridgedale Shopping Center

12401 Wayzata Blvd., Minnetonka

We need 15 - 20 volunteers to assist with this fundraising event for autism research. We will help set up for the event, register walkers, handout refreshments, and cleanup.

The goals of TCAS are to provide information and education about autism; to provide advocacy for appropriate services for people with autism and their families; and to provide support for families.

Purchase your $5 UPPER LEVEL GENERAL ADMISSION TICKET at the MN Twins Box Office at the Metrodome and then meet the SVTC group between 6:15 and 6:30 just outside of Gate D (in case of rain - go inside gate D, through the revolving doors) and look for the SVTC leader with a sign that reads "SVTC". SVTC Mixer Social

American Red Cross

1201 West River Parkway South, Minneapolis

Have you joined SVTC not only to volunteer and make the world a better place, but also to meet new single people? Are you busy, not getting into all the volunteer events that you would really like to and still want to meet more of those interesting SVTC members?

So what do you do? Come to the SVTC Mixer where there's just the right amount of structure to help you transform a room full of SVTC members into friends, dates, net-workers, or hobby buddies.

  • You don't wander around endlessly trying to meet (or avoid) people, attempting small talk. Instead the emcee guides you, effortlessly and painlessly, into comfortable activities throughout the evening.
  • You're creatively divided into groups of six, given a topic of conversation for eight minutes, and you engage at whatever level is comfortable for you.
  • If you don't click with your group, no sweat, it's only a few minutes.
  • If you want to know someone better, there's ample opportunity throughout the evening.
  • The only way you can't meet people at The SVTC Mixer is if you don't open your mouth (or don't show up)!
  • It's the "funniest", easiest, fastest way to meet people.

Cost: $2.00 to cover materials and beverages
