Music in Plymouth

Highway 55 & Plymouth Blvd.

Please join us at the annual Music in Plymouth celebration on Thursday, July 6th (rain date is Wed. 7/12). The website to check is www.ci.plymouth.mn.us, click Events on the top line, then Music in Plymouth. There should be someone there from SVTC 40+ by 6:00 p.m. Music will be provided by the several groups, including White Sidewalls, with the Minnesota Orchestra at 8:45 p.m. Fireworks at dusk. The fireworks have been wonderful in the past – certainly rivaling any in the Twin Cities. Bring your chairs or blankets, a simple snack to share and beverage of your choice. And for the card night enthusiasts, a few decks of cards (UNO) and a Scrabble game might even find their way to the event. Feel free to bring whatever game you feel might work considering the relatively crowded outdoor setting. We will have a neon yellow tagboard sign to identify the group. Please wear your nametag. RSVP’s are not mandatory, but helpful. Contact Cindy at cindyarlt@yahoo.com. If you have any comments, questions, or ideas for future activities, please contact any of the following committee members:

Apple Orchard Hayride

450 Apple Orchard Road, White Bear Lake

The 40+ social group has reserved a wagon for a hayride/bonfire on Sunday, October 15th, at Pine Tree Apple Orchard in White Bear Lake. The wagon holds up to 25 people, but depending on the response we get, we should be able to get another wagon. The ride starts at 5:30 and will last approximately an hour. We’ll stop at a pick-your-own pumpkin patch (included in the price) and at the end we’ll have a bonfire and potluck. The cost is $8.00 per person. They also have a small corn maze on site that’ll cost about $2.00 so come a bit early if you want to do this. Please bring something to share (no desserts please as we’ll be buying apple pie and cider from the orchard). If you could also bring a plate and utensils for yourself that would be great. Napkins and cups will be supplied (and stuff for s’mores for those die-hards who can’t have a bonfire without carrying out this tradition!)

From Mapquest, it looks like you can take 35W, 35E, 694, etc. to Highway 36 and depending on where you’re coming from, go east or west to Highway 61 North and take a right on Apple Orchard Road. The phone number is 651-429-6577.

Please RSVP to Karen Lashbrook via e-mail at karen.j.lashbrook@wellsfargo.com as soon as you can. If we’re getting a good response, we’ll book another wagon and give a final count by October 6th. The orchard wants just one check so we’ll be asking you to pay Karen at the orchard so you can write your check out to her or give her cash.

Timberwolves
Washburn Child Guidance Center

Target Center
600 1st Avenue North, Downtown Minneapolis

Let the games begin (again)! We are helping out with interactive games before 9 Timberwolves home games again this year. Our participation in this event will benefit Washburn Child Guidance Center. Washburn Child Guidance Center is a mental health agency serving children, adolescents and families. The mission of Washburn Child Guidance Center is to help children at risk lead successful lives. This mission is accomplished through providing diagnostic, therapeutic and education services to children and their families who are experiencing or who are at risk to experience emotional, behavioral or educational problems.

We need 10 volunteers each game to assist with interactive games such as the bungee run and the Inflatable Big Slam. These are games that are set up prior to each Timberwolves game for fans to participate in. Half of all proceeds collected will go to Washburn.

Volunteers should meet in the front of the Administration Office for the Timberwolves between 5:00 - 5:15. This is located on the west side of the Target Center at the entrance to the skyway. If you park in the I-394 Ramp, you walk East through the skyway - right before you enter the Target Center on the Skyway level, you will see a sign that reads "Administration Office Timberwolves/Lynx". Another way of getting there is to enter the Arena Club Entrance and then go up to the Skyway and the Administration Offices will be right there.

We will receive passes that will allow volunteers into the upper-level seating free. Volunteers would need to eat dinner in advance or else after our assignment is complete at 7:00pm. Parking is on your own.

Minneapolis or St. Paul location

12-15 volunteers needed to assist with construction or remodeling projects on a Habitat house. Volunteers should bring a bag lunch. When signing up, please indicate whether you have tools or experience.

Since Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity began 15 years ago, more than 200 families have purchased their own Habitat homes throughout Minneapolis, St. Paul and the surrounding suburbs. These families have monthly gross incomes that prevent them from obtaining traditional mortgages and lessen their chances of buying a home. Every family who buys a home from Habitat invests 300-500 hours of "sweat equity" work on their own house and/or other Habitat homes. Habitat then sells them a home at an affordable price and without charging any interest. It takes an average of 4000 volunteer hours to complete each house.
