MN Special Olympics Swim Meet

Arlington Senior High School
1495 Rice Street

We need 24 volunteers (2 teams of 12) to help with this swim meet.  We may be timing events, assisting athletes, etc.

All volunteers will be served lunch.  However, all volunteers may bring along their own food, pop, or water if they wish.  MN Special Olympics encourages volunteers to dress in light layers of clothing so that they will have the option of stripping down in the event that they become too uncomfortable.  It can get rather warm and humid in the pool area.  Although it isn't required, if any of the volunteers wish to wear a swim suit underneath a T-shirt and shorts or light sweat pants that would be fine.  Some, although only a very few, athletes require some assistance entering and exiting the pool for some of the heats.  Anyone wishing to help in that regard would do well to have a suit available.  Everyone should wear tennis shoes.  Although we have 2 age groups, the groups will be working within close proximity to each other.

Are you a NEW MEMBER? Are you interested in becoming MORE involved in SVTC?

If so, join us on April 5 from 7:00 - 7:45 p.m. at the Minnetonka Library (just south of Ridgedale).  The purpose of the first part of the meeting is to introduce you to other members and to answer any questions you might have about SVTC.  At 7:45 p.m., we will have people talking about various committees within SVTC (i.e., New Member committee, leading an event, developing an event, etc.).

Bring your own refreshments, we'll provide the room and chairs!

Go west on 394 to Plymouth Road.  Take a left at the top of the ramp and go past Ridgedale.  Look for the LIBRARY sign.  It will be on Ridgedale Drive and Plymouth Road (turn left off of Plymouth Road).  Our meeting room is on the 1st floor.  Follow the signs.

Let the games begin! We are continuing our regular assistance at ALL home Timberwolves games for a project that will help benefit Fraser Community Services.  Fraser assists adults and kids with special needs.

If you park in the I-394 Ramp, you walk East through the skyway - right before you enter the Target Center on the Skyway level, you will see a sign that reads "Administration Office Timberwolves/Lynx".  Another way of getting there is to enter the Arena Club Entrance and then go up to the Skyway and the Administration Offices will be right there.

We will receive passes that will allow volunteers into the upper-level seating free.

Flirting For Success

Motivational Night with Jill Spiegel

Creekside Community Center
9801 Penn Avenue South, (at the corner of 98th Street and Penn Ave), Bloomington

Come out and listen to Jill Spiegel, President of Goal Getters, speak on how flirting can help you be successful in all areas of your life.  In her best selling book, Flirting For Success, Jill inspired millions to reach out and build instant rapport with others.  Jill's presentation will be interactive so it will be a great way to meet other SVTC members.  Check out Jill's website at http://www.flirtnow.com.

With her natural knack for building rapport, Jill began her career breaking sales records selling knives and cutlery door-to-door.  Promoted to district manager, she then taught her sales force her special brand of flirting, motivating them to increase their numbers 200%.  In 1990, Spiegel founded Goal Getters where she spreads her flirting message to Fortune 500 companies, organizations, community centers and schools across the country.

Jill has appeared on Oprah and NBC's Today show; has been featured in People, USA Today, and the NY Times; and has given seminars for companies such as Cargill, Cray Research, Arthur Anderson, Honeywell and the American Heart Association.

There is a $5 admission fee to cover the room rental costs. We thank her for that and we thank Matthew M, one of our members, for recommending Jill and thank Jill for providing this seminar at no-cost.  She will have books available for purchase at the end of the seminar so bring your checkbook.

The production is The Gangster Musical. In the 1930's, Saint Paul was the poison spot of the nation. Notorious gangsters ruled the streets with
impunity. A corrupt city hall made Saint Paul a safe haven for crooks, bankrobbers and kidnappers. Alvin "Creepy" Karpis and Ma Barker's gang are just part of the local color, until one day they go too far.

Storm Drain Stenciling Program

Friends of the Mississippi River

Minneapolis Location

Help prevent pollution from flowing into the Mississippi River by spray painting "PLEASE  DON'T POLLUTE!  DRAINS TO THE RIVER" next to city strom drains and by distributing informational door hangars.

20 volunteers needed.  In case of bad weather, the rain date is Saturday, July 1.  Friends of the Mississippi River seeks to preserve and restore the river's fish and wildlife, its vital flood plains and scenic bluffs, its natural and cultural treasures, its beauty and its romance.
