Membership
Does it cost anything to participate in SVTC?
When are New Member Meetings and what happens at them?
New Member Meetings are scheduled periodically to introduce new and
potential members to SVTC. New Member Meetings include a general
overview of SVTC and a chance to meet and talk with current members.
Check the Events Calendar to see when the next New Member meeting is
being held. Note: New member meetings are not mandatory. You may start
volunteering right away without attending a new member meeting.
How do I cancel my SVTC membership?
If you wish to be removed from the SVTC mailing list, please see the section below, regarding the SVTC newsletter.
Events and Activities
How do I sign up for an event?
When can I sign up for an event?
Volunteer events are open for sign up approximately 3 weeks in advance
of the date in which the event is to take place. When an event is
available for sign up, the leader's email address will be posted for
that event.
What if I have to cancel after I sign up for an event?
If you sign up to participate in a project, we COUNT ON YOU to be at
that project. The non-profit organizations rely on us to deliver the
number of volunteers we promise in order to make their project a
success. So, if you cannot attend a project, you must notify the
project leader at least 72 hours in advance so a replacement can be
found. Any member who has 2 "no shows" or 2 "late cancellations" will
be suspended from SVTC. See the SVTC No-Show Policy for more details.
What happens if I do not attend the project I signed up for?
The continued success of SVTC depends on the support of its members. If
a member chooses not to show up for a project, not only is the overall
success of the project affected, but also the perception of how
effective SVTC can be in its obligations to the community and its
members. For these reasons, SVTC's policy for no shows is that a member
who fails to attend two volunteer projects for which he/she is
obligated, without prior notification to cancel, will have his/her
membership suspended. You must notify your project team leader of your
cancellation 72 hours in advance, so that a replacement can be found.
I noticed that some events involve serving alcohol. Can I drink while volunteering?
NO, drinking alcohol is STRICTLY PROHIBITED while working as a SVTC volunteer.
Are children allowed at volunteer projects or socials?
Children attending SVTC volunteer projects raises concerns with respect
to the project's sponsoring organization, SVTC members and children's
safety. SVTC's policy is that children are NOT permitted to attend any
SVTC volunteer projects.
How do I become an event leader?
Leading is fun and rewarding! After you have participated in a few volunteer
events, you may wish to get more involved by leading an event.
If the event on on the calendar says "Leader Needed", there will be an
email link (near the end of the event description) that you can use to
volunteer to lead the event.
